AKA Online game with real pieces
A have been using DGT (DigitalGameTechnology) products for a few years now (DGT non-electronic TimeLess pieces, DGT3000LE and had to opportunity to borrow a DGT Centaur for a while) so when I heard the news that DGT would release a dedicated chessboard for online play called DGT Pegasus . . .
. . . I started to safe up money to get one.
So when it was released I bought one and even made a unboxing video about it.
It's my first unboxing video ever, so with a improvised setup (used my Nikon D7000 with a MF prime 24/2.8 Nikkor) it will look quite non-professional.
At the time of writing this I have played a few games with it on Lichess and have to say I like the experience. I'm going to add a dedicated DGT Pegasus page to this website to document my experiences, add demonstration video's etc, so stay tuned.
Some video's from games I played.
To give a user experience impression, I have recorded a few games I played. The video's are very amateur, but video's isn't a thing I do often.
DGT Pegasus - Lichess Computer Level 2
Connected my DGT Pegasus to a Lichess Computer Level 2 Platform for a quick game and video. Got some connection problems in the beginning. Seems my Lichess sign in had expired (had a previous game but went for a bike ride so connection might be lost). Switched to DGT Offline platform, switched back to Lichess, and was good to go.

Notes to myself:
- When playing on your smartphone while recording, switch of notifications, and incoming calls ;-)
- AF errors. Use a real camera for the games, I recorded it with a spare mobile phone which didn't have manual focus.

Moves not recognized
I also had a few times that pawn moves where not recognized. Because the DGT Pegasus is based on the same technology as the DGT Centaur (EMF piece recognition without identification), I have tried using the DGT Centaur pieces on the Pegasus and then the problem was gone.
So looking at the difference in size (and base diameter)
- DGT Centaur - Kings height : 86 mm
- DGT Pegasus - Kings height : 70 mm
I would expect that the matching of the metal sticker in the base to the induction coil in the board is a little to critical because I never had the problem with the DGT Centaur.
So when the problem occurred I have used a few old coins underneath the problem pawn(s).
Update by DGT regarding moves not recognized
DGT has released calibration instructions including a video on how to calibrate the DGT Pegasus.
It should help with moves not being recognized.
I have tried it and improves the recognition bigtime (sometimes had problem with 2 Pawns, which now seems to be fixed).
Note : I checked the manuals (PDF and original) and it didn't mention the calibration procedure. So I guess they forgot to put it in.
My update regarding moves not recognized
I may have found a way for better piece recognition, but it's needs more testing. When I think it's good enough I will post it here.
To be continued. . . .
